Sunburst Honeylocust has attractive lime green foliage which emerges gold in spring. The pinnately compound leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding yellow in the fall. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. Sunburst Honeylocust is an open deciduous tree with an upright spreading habit of growth. It lends an extremely fine and delicate texture to the landscape composition which can make it a great accent feature on this basis alone. This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favour of tastier treats. Sunburst Honeylocust will grow to be about 40 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 35 feet. It has a high canopy with a typical clearance of 7 feet from the ground. This tree should only be grown in full sunlight. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist locations, and should do just fine under average home landscape conditions.
